Who are they?
The Kuku Yalanji people are in the tribal area including the entire Daintree Cape Tribulation and Bloomfield region. Their region originates from the dreamtime story The Rainbow Serpent (in ancient land). To the Kuku Yalanji people, they are all related. They live together in communities and extended families.
Indigenous Relationship with the Land
Kuku Yalanji people are dedicated conservationists, meaning they only take things that are absolutely necessary. They believe taking from the forest today means less for tomorrow. They also believe that the spirits of their dead ancestors find refuge in the forest and remain there watching the tribe and ensuring that they all obey the rules and laws.
